Irise Dance Project has developed a curriculum which consists of dance classes offered in various genres such as ballet, jazz, hip hop, and modern dance. These classes run for ten months in an afterschool setting and are offered to children ages 2.5-18. This curriculum is the result of over 15 years of teaching dance to children of all backgrounds who are in various stages of their development. Students are placed into their classes of choice with consideration to their age, level, and abilities. Our dance educators and founder believe strongly in using traditional and innovative dance techniques to produce well rounded and technically strong dancers. While classes aim to challenge students mentally and physically, we strongly emphasize the holistic development of each student. Using movement theory, storytelling, and strong dance technique, Irise uses dance to express the personal and collective stories of our youth. Past students and alumni have gone on to study dance, musical theatre, and the arts at both the collegiate and professional level. Additionally, several of our high school students have made varsity cheer and dance teams within their schools and communities; furthering their opportunities and success.

After School Dance Curriculum

The Summer Dance Program is a four-week initiative designed for students in grades K-4 and older youth aged 8-18, dedicated to advancing resilience and youth empowerment through dance education. The program is offered in two two-week sessions allowing us to accommodate two cohorts. Staff include professional dance artists with several years of experience, a mental health professional, and an early childhood education specialist.

Our goal is to ignite a passion for dance in young students, instilling discipline, perseverance, and creativity while providing professional dance education in an empowering environment. By using the transformative power of dance, we aim to reach as many children as possible, creating future opportunities for year-round engagement and opportunities within Irise Dance Project. Daily activities include circle time and discussions, journaling, reading, storytelling, arts activities, social time and skill building, STEM explorations, and of course lots and lots of dancing! Classes include ballet, modern, hip hop, Latin, creative movement, yoga, and cultural dance.
